"Comunio"
Cycle B

We have celebrated every feast that pertains directly to God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

In the readings for this day, we need to relish Jesus in his divine body and blood.

In the Old Testament, the covenant sealed in the blood of sacrifice.  How important is this sacrifice.  It marks our permanent relationship with God. It is sealed through the commandments we need to follow in order to be one with God.

Today, the covenant is still existing, but it was Jesus who sealed it through his body and blood, the living sacrifice of praise.  Jesus offered it once and for all in the sacrifice on the cross.  But he also offered an unbloody sacrifice through the last supper in the offering of bread and wine as he said, "Do this in remembrance of me."

Where are we in this offering?  Jesus wants us to be totally united with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  The keyword is "communion".  Communion entails that we be totally one heart, mind, spirit, and being with God.  Communion also calls us to love one another as Jesus loves us.  The Eucharist is our way to the Father.
