"A leper came to him and pleaded on his knees: 'If you want to,' he said, 'you can cure me."

And Jesus said, "Of course, I want to!" (Mark 1:40-45)

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines "leprosy" as a physical disease accompanied by a loss of sensation with eventual paralysis, wasting of muscle, and production of deformities and mutilations. But it is also analogous to a morally or spiritually harmful influence.

A "spiritual leprosy" is something that we have to be watchful for. When we have lost sensation of those around us because we are so comfortable within the walls of our own luxurious living; when we fail to feel even those closest to us, our own children, because we think that we have provided them with "everything". When there is no sting of anger in our hearts becuase of poverty caused by social indifference, instead, we build for ourselves higher walls, then we truly need God's grace to free us from our own insensitivity and to have the courage to do what is right and just.

Then we can feel exactly what God is feeling for all of us and be more responsive to the needs of others.
