Perhaps, one of the most challenging work of the priest is giving ministry to the bereaved. No matter what he says, no amount of words can heal a sorrowful heart. But losing a loved one also becomes a gift in that we begin to value life. This is a mystery, that in encountering death, we actually enter into the world of real life.
This radical treatment of death is an eye-opener for those who desire to live only through comforts and power. Reflecting on death would make us realize what to value in this world - not the fleeting, not the temporary, but that which lasts forever and we can take to heaven.
In faith, we see death as the beginning of new life. How true it is when Jesus said, "Unless a grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat. But if it dies, it bears much fruit."
Learn to prioritize what is truly important - our life with God and our service to one another.
